Pastor's Reflection - Sept 29th, 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the beauty of fall as the leaves change color around us.

Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons. However, during my drive over Chinook Pass on Tuesday, I was overcome with a wave of grief as I reflected on the memories I shared with my father, who also cherished this time of year. We had countless adventures together—trips to Leavenworth, hunting for deer and elk, and capturing the splendor of God’s creation during our photo excursions. Recently, someone shared with me that grief is like carrying a rock: it’s always with you, but over time, it feels a little less heavy. I’ve come to realize that the more we expect our feelings, memories, and emotions to fade, the more difficult it can become. Instead, we must ask the Lord to walk with us, sharing everything we face in life with Him as our closest friend. What a remarkable blessing it is to know that, no matter what challenges we encounter, the Lord is always by our side and will never abandon us.

As I continue to find my “rhythm of life” while pastoring three parish communities, I am deeply grateful for the kindness and hospitality each community has shown me over the past three months.

My spiritual director recently advised me to prioritize my prayer life as I manage my time. I recognize that it’s impossible to attend every council, committee, and ministry meeting in each parish. I sincerely appreciate your prayers as I strive for a balanced way of life. I am happy to meet with individuals, but I may need to space those appointments out to create a more manageable and healthy schedule.

Fr. Woodland and I kindly ask that if you would like to schedule an appointment with either of us, please do not approach us after Mass or in the sacristy. Instead, contact the parish offices to request an appointment or send us an email. This will help us maintain a more organized and peaceful environment for everyone.

Wishing you a blessed weekend!

In Christ,

Fr. Jim
