Service and Outreach Opportunities
This compassionate group serves our Church Family especially when a loved one has died. At this trying time, we strive to extend God's compassion and abiding love by providing food for funeral receptions. There are no meetings; rather we swing into action when the need arises. Please contact the parish office at 360-866-2229 for information or email the Office.
Circle of Joy
This group is open to all women in the parish desiring to build up the St. Barbara Community. We sponsor the Not Just Donuts, Lenten Soup Nights, the Confirmation and First Communion Receptions and support the local food banks. The October Artisan Bazaar supports our activities. We meet eight times a year, usually on the third Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall. For more information please email Mary Krieg.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an international organization which assists people with low incomes to work toward owning their own homes. St. Barbara Church provides volunteers at building sites in the general area. We are currently working each third Saturday of most months remodeling homes in Federal Way. For more information, please contact Diane Hanrahan at 425-736-8812 or email Diane.
The Knights of Columbus team up with the Puget Sound Blood Center to sponsor blood drives several times a year. The gift of blood is the gift of life itself. The need peaks in the summer months, but extends throughout the entire year. The parish contact person is Ray Signani. Please call the office, 360-886-2229, to leave a message for Ray.
During the blest Christmas time we make the love of God visible by collecting and distributing toys, gifts and needed items to brighten the day for those in need. Catholic Community Services identifies appropriate families. Tags with desired items are attached to a tree in the narthex. After purchasing the item, return it with the tag to the vestibule. Volunteers deliver the items to the families. Please contact Brooke Dillon at 425-432-3907.
Late each summer, school supplies are collected to help local students from low income families start off the school year on a positive note. Needed items are published in the bulletin, on the parish web page, and on a printed sheet in the entry area of the church.
Stuff the Truck
As we spring clean each year, many donate usable items to St. Vincent de Paul. This reputable service organization runs thrift stores, teaches necessary job skills, and aids people in need. Information is provided in the bulletin, on the parish web page, and on a printed sheet in the entry area of the church.
Parish Nurses can build bridges of support between parishioners, families and primary care providers. Nurses can also help establish support systems within families and neighborhoods. We meet with families with health concerns and would like to expand the program to other health care providers and /or other interested parties. Please call the parish office at 360-886-2229 to leave name and phone number so the parish nurse can contact you.
Several times a year, the Knights of Columbus coordinate volunteers to help with grounds maintenance. For more information, please contact Zbig Kasprzyk at 360-825-2892.
