Saint Barbara Parish

Safe Environment Information and Training

St. Barbara Parish Church is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our children and vulnerable adults. We follow the recommendations of the Seattle Archdiocese. Staff and volunteers who have ongoing, unsupervised access to these individuals are required to have criminal background checks and participate in the Safe Environment Program.

All staff are required to have a background check as a term of employment. Volunteers who have access to cash and assets must provide information required for a background check as well. A Social Security number is required to run a background check. Individuals who are unable or unwilling to provide the required personal information will not be able to have a background check. This will affect the nature of their volunteer involvement.

Everyone is encouraged to view the information on the Safe Environment Program website of the Archdiocese of Seattle. The policies, training and education can be beneficial for everyone in the community. Working together, we can utilize the training materials in our schools, church and ministries to provide a safe environment for everyone.

Employees and volunteers at St. Barbara Parish who have taken the required "Called to Protect for Ministries" keep current by participating in annual online materials.

Anyone may attend a "Called to Protect for Parents and Families" class to learn more about protecting children, and how to identify and report abuse. Visit the Seta Net Training Database for dates and locations of this non-credited but very worthwhile session.
